SUPA Writing 105

 For this post I will be talking about masculinity, and you may think its odd for a female to talk about masculinity, but living with a little brother, a military father, and taking this SUPA class I feel I know a lot. In my Writing 105 course we watched a documentary, Tough Guise 2. We also read two articles about masculinity,  Not Your Father's Masculinity and   The Boys Are Not Alright (very good reads to open your eyes about the world we live in right now)   First I will dive into the documentary, Jackson Katz throws a lot of stats at you within the first 10 minutes of the documentary; stats about how 86% of armed robbery are committed by men, 77% of aggravated assaults happen by men, 87% of stalking cases happen from men, 86% of domestic violence happens from men, 99% of rape happens from men, and 90% of murders from men. To me that is mind blowing. 61 of 62 mass shootings happened from men. But when it is brought up into the media, the problem remains gender ...

 This blog will consist of all of my work from my first unit in SUPA Writing 105!   So today for this post, I watched the Ted-talk, 10 Ways To Have A Better Conversation  by Celeste Headlee and I really enjoyed her main idea and how she expressed everything. Headlee expressed her topic in such a way that seemed nearly relatable to everyone, and her 10 rules seem realistic and do-able. At the very beginning of her talk, Headlee explains all the things that we already know about how to have conversations, but she explains that all of that is crap and must be forgotten. Rather use her rules, some consisted of; not multitasking, rather be present in the conversation, not to equate your experiences with theirs because all experiences are individual and not everything is always about you, try not to repeat yourself because that becomes boring and tiring, and listen.   My mentor blog. For this blog I looked at three other blogs to kind of get the feel of how to do this. This is my first one though so lets hope it'll be okay. Coming across Musallam's blog I found it interesting seeing some tricks and pointers for virtual learning as he is a full time science teacher. His 5E inquiry cycle example is a five step process of how he teaches his ZOOM classes. His 5E's consist of (in order of steps) engage, explore, explain, extend, and evaluate.
